The Importance of Surrounding Your Children with Books, Art Supplies and Nature
Charlotte Mason Ideas on Nature Study
I am a mother of three, grandmother of three, and owner of a toy store. My children where homeschooled and also attended public and charter schools. I would like to share some things that I found benefited my children and grandchildren, they are all smart, creative, and artistic. I am not a certified teacher, nor a writer, I am just a mother with some experience. Books, by all means is number one. But I also found that by surrounding my children with art supplies such as colored pencils, sketch books, paints and crayons has greatly benefited them, and let's not forget connecting with nature.
“Nature is the source of all true knowledge. She has her own logic, her own laws, she has no effect without cause nor invention without necessity.”
— Leonardo da Vinci
There are many articles and Youtube videos on this subject.
My favorite resource is directly from this book:
A Charlotte Mason Companion: Personal Reflections on the Gentle Art of Learning
Paperback – January 1, 1998
by Karen Andreola (Author)
This book has an inspirational chapter on nature study and chapters on her methods of using whole
books & narration, which I loved.
I will be posting more about those methods later.
Now, that I am a store owner, I look forward to filling our shelves with nature notebooks, art supplies,
dried flowers & possibly a nature notebook satchel to hold all of their supplies.
Check back periodically to see what we have found.
This is a simple and fulfilling activity that will benefit your children greatly...
